Flow field statistics of the supercritical turbulent spiral in counter-rotating Taylor-Couette flow

We analyse, from a field statistics point of view, the supercritical turbulent spiral regime in small gap Taylor-Couette flow. We find that mean flow fields are similar to those observed in the oblique stripe pattern regime of plane Couette flow, provided that statistics are computed in a frame of reference that rotates with the large scale structure of the spiral. Centrifugal effects seem to play no major role in shaping the mean flow fields of the strucutre.
